Can we imagine a medium that opens the channels for female dancers and choreographers to express themselves, clap back, be heard, and return a gaze to the world? To empower the feminine to become whatever she wants to be: a voice she wears around her, a message to the world, poetry, a shield.

About the project
Unspoken Message is a research of an upcoming dance video performance project inspired by Kanga. Since the abolition of slavery in Zanzibar, this piece of fabric called Kanga has empowered the voices of all those who recognise themselves as female. During this process, female artists were connected with dance/dancers, choreographers, filmmakers, lighting designers, and costume designers to develop the body of a project that, having Kanga as the primary medium, has the aim to bring these voices throughout a dance and video performance in the future.
